Why Cervical Health Matters
Cervical health is essential for overall well-being, as the cervix plays a crucial role in reproductive health and childbirth. Regular cervical screening checks, such as Pap smears and HPV tests, are vital for detecting abnormalities early and preventing cervical cancer, which is highly treatable when caught in its early stages.
Our Approach to Cervical Screening and Colposcopy
Dr Lauren offers comprehensive cervical health services, including:
- Cervical Screening Checks: We provide routine cervical screening checks, also known as Pap smears or Pap tests, to detect abnormal changes in the cells of the cervix. These tests are recommended for women starting at age 25 years old and should be performed every five years as part of preventive care.
- Colposcopy: If abnormalities are detected during cervical screening or if you have symptoms such as abnormal bleeding or pelvic pain, we may recommend colposcopy. Colposcopy is a diagnostic procedure that allows us to examine the cervix more closely using a special magnifying instrument called a colposcope. During colposcopy, we may take biopsies of abnormal areas for further evaluation and treatment planning.
- Treatment and Management: If abnormal cells are found during colposcopy or biopsy, we offer a range of treatment options to address cervical abnormalities and prevent progression to cervical cancer. These may include loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LLETZ) or cone biopsy depending on the severity and extent of the abnormality.
